Let’s face it, most of us spend too much of our precious lives sat in front of a screen. Our bodies and minds are craving a good shot of fresh air, a bit of back to basics. There’s no escaping it, being out in nature is good for the soul.
Where to then? Worthing might not be the first place on your weekend bucket list, but think again. This town is undergoing a massive renaissance – less busy and less expensive than neighbouring Brighton. Worthing offers a vibrant independent arts and music scene, top foodie hotspots and a wonderful feeling of space with the sea and the South Downs on our doorstep. We’re also getting a name as the water sports capital of Sussex – best to pre book if you fancy trying your hand at Stand Up Paddle Boarding or taking that first Kite surfing lesson.
So what are you waiting for? Book yourself in for an overnight stay, our varied accommodation means there is something for all tastes & budgets, pack your bag and hop on that train!
Here’s our outdoorsy weekend in Worthing kit list to ensure you make the most of it…
Sun Glasses – Worthing just happens to be one of the sunniest places in the country (also handy if you’re feeling a little fragile the morning after that gig or the microbrewery tour of Worthing!)
Sensible shoes
Trainers – There’s no way you won’t want to stretch those legs and stride out along our wonderful open prom, you might even want to break into a jog (try Worthing Park Run or the Good Gym).
Walking boots – a hearty walk is so much better in comfy boots. From nearby Cissbury Ring there are endless wonderful National Park walking routes, perfect picnic sports with far reaching views down to the sea and wild ponies thrown in for good measure.
Your trunks / swim suit / wet suit / goggles – nothing is more invigorating or clears the mind more than a dip in the sea. You’d have to be pretty hearty to go in without a wet suit until end of June. After that, yes, it’s a bit chilly but boy it feels good! If you’re not feeling so hearty you might just want to hit Splashpoint Leisure Centre – the new beachfront state of the art swimming pool. On chilly evenings don’t miss the spa with steam room, sauna and wonderful hot beds to recline on whilst looking out over the sea, from only £7 per person.
You probably won’t need much in the way of kit for a gentle peddle along the prom but if you’re more of a cycle enthusiast (don’t forget those padded shorts!) we have some great on and off road routes for all levels of experience.
Finally, just like your your mum says …don’t forget your coat! Better make it wind / waterproof just to be on the safe side.
Happy Holidays!
