“Some artists have a distinctive style of subject matter. I have a less defined approach (some would say random!) but if something attracts me, visually or intellectually, I use it as the starting point for a design.”
Michelle studied Graphic Design at Brighton University, and later returned for an MA in Illustration. She has worked as a graphic designer and a College lecturer. Now retired, Michelle continues to be creative in her garden studio.
Michelle is now ready to exhibit her ‘eclectic mix’ of artwork, both old and new;
“I have some decorated China – I like the shapes and patterns and have used them in still life paintings and prints. Sometimes I draw them, or photograph them as reference. Using a mix of techniques – drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, photography & digital.”
Natural forms are an inspiration for many artists, including Michelle. Using their structure and colour as design elements, beautiful compositions and abstract textures are often found in the form of fish, fruit & flowers in vibrant prints. Her work is printed with high quality inks, photographic paper and acid free mounts to capture the vibrancy of the artwork.
More recently, Michelle has explored Oriental themes. Finding inspiration from ceramics, textiles & cultures of the Far East. Inevitably, Michelle’s own style, use of colour & form, becomes an interpretation of distant lands.
