Free Interactive Listening Walk

Can you help test out listening walks in East Worthing?

Bethan Prosser, from Brighton University, has been working on a research project all about listening to seaside neighbourhoods and gentrification on the south coast since 2020. Gentrification refers to the changes that happen when a neighbourhood is renovated and more affluent people move in, which can result in less affluent people moving out. Or as an East Worthing resident put it more succinctly: “the poshing up of a place to the detriment of working folk”.

Bethan is working with community musician, Bela Emerson, (from Brighton & Hove Music for Connection) to create listening walks to share some of the findings and get people talking about the issues. They would like to test the walks out with local residents in East Worthing:

  • first pilot of a group interactive listening walk is Saturday 16th March 2.30-5.30pm.
  • there will be other sessions to give feedback about a digital media walk over the coming months

If you are interested in taking part or want to find out more about the project, please contact Bethan: email: b.m.prosser@brighton.ac.uk Tel: 07549394084.
