Speakeasy

An “atmospheric, vigorous and breathtaking” (The Daily Telegraph) dance performance from Southpaw Dance Company

Welcome to Speakeasy. All is not as it seems and if you happen upon it, best to walk the other way…

Featuring a spectacular 1920s-themed set, world-class visuals, and a cinematic soundtrack comprising big band classics and contemporary hits, all alongside the distinctive Southpaw movement vocabulary.

Speakeasy is a reinterpretation of the classic tale of Faust. Entering a seemingly ordinary prohibition-era bar, Faust is unaware that the bar is owned by the devil and populated by his demons, including the charismatic barman, Mephistopheles.

The show features some of the UK’s finest Bboys (Breakdancers) who combine Breaking seamlessly alongside Charleston, Lindy and other dance styles of the Roaring ’20s.

Big band classics such as Benny Goodman and Count Basie form an audio landscape to the piece that is at once vintage and contemporary, intimate and spectacular.
