The event will be held on Broadwater Green on Sunday 7th July 2024 between 12am – 4pm.
This is our 3rd event and this year is special for our Vice Chair who is the organiser of the day as this year is the 20th Anniversary of when her husband was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. He lost his fight against this cruel disease in 2004.
The help her family received from the branch volunteer Association Visitors was as invaluable in 2000 as it is today. They can help with providing equipment that is not necessarily readily available through the NHS and transport for appointments to and from hospital. At times a house needs to be modified to accommodate wheelchair access or when bathroom facilities need to be altered to a wet room. In addition to practical help, there are support meetings to help when a husband, wife or partner is faced with losing their loved one. With the funds we raise, we can pay for massages and well needed breaks away to keep some form of normality for families. On an emotional level, counselling and art therapy have proved to be very therapeutic too.
The branch needs to raise over £35,000.00 a year to cover the support we provide to 50+ people living with MND in our community, and this money is raised solely by volunteers.
We are looking to raise over £5,000.00 this year.
