In 2020 Welsh Superstar Mezzo Soprano Katherine Jenkins OBE officially became the world’s most successful Classical singer after she was crowned ’The Biggest Selling Classical Artist of the Century’ by Classic FM She further cemented her title by gaining her 14 th Number 1 Album smashing the record books since signing to Universal Classics at the tender age of 22.
Within months of graduating from the Royal Academy of Music, Katherine signed the ‘biggest recording deal in UK classical music history’ Sold out tours followed and performances and recordings with Andrea Bocelli, Gary Barlow, David Foster and Il Divo Also known as the ‘Forces Sweetheart’, charity work has always played an important role for Jenkins After singing ‘We’ll Meet Again’ with Dame Vera Lynn at the 60 th Anniversary of VE Day, she became a trustee of the British Forces Foundation 2005 travelling to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Cyprus and Northern Ireland to entertain the troops She is also an ambassador for cancer charity Macmillan raising over 30 000 by running the London Marathon.
Jenkins made her debut on the West End stage playing Julie Jordan in Carousel with English National Opera at the London Coliseum, her performance earning her rave reviews from both the British and International press Her next acting role and her film debut came in ‘ alongside Johnny Depp and Bill Nighy a movie scheduled for release in late 2021 for which Katherine also lends her voice to Ryuichi Sakamoto’s score Her radio and TV work includes the BBC’s ‘Songs of Praise’ where she is a regular presenter.
After clocking up her 14 th number one album with ‘Cinema Paradiso’, Katherine ended 2020 with her ‘Christmas Spectacular’ from the Royal Albert Hall a fully fledged Christmas musical film created by Jenkins with the aim of spreading some festive cheer During the pandemic Katherine has given over 26 lockdown concerts on Facebook from her home, including ‘Kath’s Karaoke’ allowing her to reach and support her global audience whilst also becoming a hit with a new generation of fans.
