Heene Sessions – Pete Fij/Terry Bickers

A rare live performance from acclaimed duo Pete Fij / Terry Bickers to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their first ever release ‘Betty Ford’ in 2013 (which featured an amazing video filmed on Worthing seafront).

Described as like a late night jamming session with Johnny Cash, Velvet Underground & The Everley Brothers trying not to wake the neighbours, their music is a strangely cheerful melancholia that blends humour and resilience with fragile vulnerability. Their albums and live shows have shown how these two indie musicians have transitioned from indie guitar noiseniks (Fij in Adorable and Bickers in fellow Creations’ Records’ House of Love as well as Levitation) into intelligent literate alt country artists, and reminded people just why Bickers was labelled a “rock god”, rated alongside Johnny Marr or Bernard Butler by the likes of the NME some 30 years ago with his sublime guitar playing, and why his cohort Fij was described by the Independent as “the most underrated lyricist since Jarvis Cocker last put pen to paper”.

Their music has won Single of The Week on Steve Lamacq’s Round Table review show, Single of The Week on 6Music listeners People’s Choice, featured on Sunday Brunch (Channel 4) & the duo were featured guests on Clive Anderson’s ‘Loose Ends’ (BBC Radio 4) Sunday Show (BBC Radio 5LIVE) & ‘Radcliffe Maconie Show’ (BBC 6Music)

Reviews for ‘We Are Millionaires’:

“Minor key, acoustic introspection (Hawley, Lloyd Cole-ish) done so beautifully it’s as if they’re singing to one another in the dustlight of a pub back room; strumming, crooning, nursing collective memories.” – MOJO

“Unfailingly lovely late night reflections” – UNCUT

“A sweetly gloomy affair…an uplifting reminder that it really is never too late to get your band together” – Q
