Exploring geology and landscape of our ancient past

Leader: David Bone (local geologist). Meet 11.00 am , Tuesday 4 October on Highdown Hill, Worthing (at public car park, by Highdown Gardens). Walking distance about 1.5km on open hilltop.  Dress warmly and with suitable footwear for uneven ground.  Duration (weather permitting) about 2 hours.

Donations to West Sussex Geological Society.

We will trace the formation of Highdown Hill and the surrounding area from the tropical chalk seas, 90 million years ago, to the frozen tundra of the Ice Age, 15 thousand years ago.  We will also discuss how, in more recent times, these rocks have been exploited by people who have farmed and quarried the landscape.
