In celebration of National Carers Rights Day, (November 25th) ANGELS ALL AROUND puts unpaid carers centre stage, and celebrates them for the vital work they do for friends and family by creating special portraits inside icon boxes (crafted from repurposed recycled materials).
Artist Slavka Jovanović created six of the icon portraits and carers themselves made another ten. All of the icons will be displayed online, with a rotating selection displayed in the exhibition. Both Slavka and assistant Becky Simmons are full time carers themselves, so this project is very close to their hearts.
The Artist
Slavka loves working with photos and printed designs, which she creates herself. Her influences for this project are drawn from her Serbian heritage, in particular Eastern Orthodox icons and murals. Her style leans towards the folk art tradition, and she uses collage/decoupage techniques.
