Background to My Worthing:
West Sussex County Council, Worthing Borough Council, Time for Worthing and Worthing BID are working together with Dense Air on the BEACH project which is funded by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). The My Worthing App has been fully funded as part of this initiative.
The aim of BEACH ?
BEACH aims to overcome issues of poor phone connectivity across the seafront and town centre which impact many of us in our daily lives whether it's struggling to get a mobile signal or to make cashless payments.
In order to achieve this, BEACH first needs to understand the current levels of connectivity for users especially at peak usage times. When you are using the My Worthing app, you may notice a ‘speed test request’ pop up - this is optional but to support BEACH we would welcome you running the test on your phone. The test will only take around 30 seconds and enables researchers to understand current connectivity issues.
The opportunity..
Once they have an understanding of current levels of connectivity, BEACH will then look to improve mobile capacity and connectivity specifically along the seafront and in the town centre for businesses, residents and visitors.
Long term this will mean a more reliable mobile network for everyone, especially during busy times.
