Liz English: FLORIFEROUS

Colonnade House

Nature, gardens, and bouquets are a huge source of inspiration. Her paintings are a mix of reality and imagination often referencing moments, scenes and feelings provoked by childhood memories. She also has some might say an unhealthy obsession with Chinoiserie vases.

She works with acrylics loving the immediacy they offer, collage and freeform embroidery over paintings also have a part to play.

Not really a member of the Coco Chanel school of styling – she would be guilty of adding an item of adornment rather than taking one away on leaving the house. An approach she also applied to her art and often referred to by some as “The Kitchen Sink” methodology but which she prefers to call joyful, abundant and uplifting.

Liz English is a self taught artist based in West Sussex since 2020. She was born in South Africa, brought up in Essex and has lived in Italy and Kuwait as a direct response to her very beige surroundings. Quite simply, she realised she couldn’t live without colour so she had to paint herself a new reality and refill her life with those vibrations only colour can bring.
