Visits to the Old Bakehouse

Visits to the Old Bakehouse

Visitors can come into the Victorian bakehouse and view an exhibition of related documents, photographs and artefacts. Access is through the double gates up the driveway beside Number 19, originally the baker’s shop. The bakehouse was built for William Manwaring in the 1860s and taken over by the Knight family in 1910. It ceased being used as a working bakery in the 1940s. The current owners, Leigh and Richard Lawson, will be on hand to provide information about the history of the bakehouse and the occupants of the adjoining 17th century cottage which is not open to the public. This event is hosted on behalf of West Sussex Archives Society - the Friends of West Sussex Record Office. Places are limited each day. Visit any time between 2pm – 4.30pm on the arranged dates.
