Shelter

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help.

They are here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.

They love donations of high quality, second-hand items! Whether you’re making space in your wardrobe by getting rid of old clothes, freeing yourself of unwanted books, or just having a bit of a clear out, bring your pre-loved goods down to their shop.

Although Shelter is grateful for every donation, there are a few things they are unfortunately unable to take, so please do check the list below before coming in.

What Shelter accepts:

  • good quality second-hand clothes

  • books

  • CDs and DVDs

  • good quality furniture*

  • electrical items*

*not available in all Shelter shops, so please check before bringing these items in.

What Shelter can’t accept

  • items in poor condition

  • white goods

  • upholstered items without a fire label

“Volunteer with Shelter

Our Shelter shops simply cannot run without our incredible volunteers. If you’d like to do something valuable with your spare time, while picking up new skills and gaining retail experience, volunteering a few hours in a Shelter shop could be right for you.

Volunteering for just a few hours a week can make a huge difference. To join our fantastic team, register your interest on the Better Impact website.”
