German film, directed by Christian Petzold, it won the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize in February 2023.
The film centers around the relationships and interplay between four people trapped in a holiday home on the Baltic Sea by uncontrolled forest fires. Afire’s strength lies in the fact it is character rather than plot driven.
Petzold writes his characters – especially pompous writer Leon (fearlessly played by Thomas Schubert) with a satisfying authenticity, delighting in putting them in discomforting and awkward situations resulting in a terrific comedy of modern manners.
