Bryony Shearmur: “Everything I Ever Did”

Colonnade House

“Everything I Ever Did” is a hand sewn quilt by Bryony Shearmur, completed over a three year period while she was still living in Los Angeles.

She started the quilt immediately after the “Cheap Sheets and Soiled Smalls” series of hand-embroidered blankets, as a finale for the series.

Made up of hundreds of individual experiences the piece went everywhere with her for the time it took to complete. Part confessional, part journal, this quilt, more than any of her other textile work, is a self portrait but has something of everyone in it.

The quilt is hand-stitched onto denim and backed with a Union Jack flag that she found in an LA yard sale. As an English person living abroad, this felt perfect. The quilt made its debut at Black Box Gallery in New York in 2021 and is on show in the UK for the first time.

Before putting all the pieces together, Bryony photographed each of them, and working with artist and friend James Mathers, created an additional layer to the project with a series of illustrated prints.

The series of prints will be shown alongside the quilt.
